ClaireViolet (it/its) is a transsexual 35mm film photographer from Capitol Hill, Seattle. Its panoramic work explores depersonalization and the mechanical. Its favorite color is yellow.

Exhibitions & Publications

ClaireViolet's photographic work has been exhibited at Elevation Project (Seattle) in 2026 and featured in the second edition of Easel, a “print-first photographic journal made by transsexuals.”

Current Projects

It is currently working on two projects, both primarily in 35mm panoramas. The first series, Maritime, Manufacturing, and Logistics focuses on logistics infrastructure and industrial land use along the urban west coast, especially Seattle, Washington and Oakland, California. The second is a collection of North American transit photography which it began in April 2025. This series currently features work from New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle. Its desire is “to depict the feeling of awe I experience at scale, and my appreciation for the organized chaos that underlies our world.”

Everything Else

“Claire Violet’s work has a way of slowing you down. Shot on film and full of feeling, her photos turn everyday moments into something quietly remarkable. ... There’s a softness to the way she photographs the world. An intimacy and sense of care that encourages you to really look.”
